A dishwasher water pump is a small circulation water pump motor that use centrifugal water pressure force generated by its high-speed rotating impeller to spray water through the spray arm hole to clean bowl and dish. It usually install at the bottom of the dishwasher tank.

Reversible type pump : Whether this type pump press the water to the nozzle or to the drain is determined by changing the running direction of the motor. People usually vertically install the reversible dishwahser water pump in the dishwasher machine.
Direct drive type pump : Since the pump motor can only be operated in one running direction. Therefore, for this type of dishwasher water pump, it usually use a solenoid valve to control the water whether flows to the nozzle or to the drain pipe. This solenoid valve can open and close the corresponding valve or switches the passage. Generally speaking, people usually horizontally install the non-reversiblepump in the diswasher machine.

How to Repair a Dishwasher Water Pump?
Most dishwasher water pumps are located below the lower spray arm to pump the water for dishwasher. Like other components, the food or detergent may block the impeller of the pump. So, people need disassemble it to clean the pump. The steps to disassemble the pump are as follows:
- Step 1: Unscrew the top cover of the fixed spray arm.
- Step 2: Remove the spray arm, strainer, pump casing, screw, upper impeller, food remover knife, partition, impeller cover, plate, O-ring and impeller. Place these parts in the order of dis-assembly , so that they can be reassembly later.
- Step 3: Thoroughly clean these parts with a household soft cleaner. If any part is broken, replace it with a new one that matches the dishwasher.
- Step 4: Replace all seals, such as O-rings.
- Step 5: Reassembly the pump in order.
The spray arm, strainer and pump casing should be removed before removing the pump. After removing the screw, the pump can be removed.
Some tableware sterilizing dishwashers use the lower impeller as a dishwasher drain pump. This type of water pump is usually equipped with a reversible motor. It need to clean the lower impeller of the pump when cannot be drain the water from the dishwasher. If your dishwasher is equipped with this impeller pump system. This may solve the problem.
